LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A stray cat brought to Lexington-Fayette Animal Care & Control in mid-December has been reunited with her original owner thanks to a microchip and a cross-state journey.
The cat, named Mochi, was scanned for a microchip when she arrived at the facility. Staff retrieved the registration information and contacted the woman listed on the chip.
The woman told animal control officials she had rehomed Mochi years ago and now lives in Florida.
After learning that the person she had given Mochi to no longer wanted the cat, the original owner and her boyfriend traveled out of state to pick up Mochi. The cat is now headed to Florida with her original family.

“Thanks to a microchip and a whole lot of love, Mochi’s story ended the best way possible: a long-distance reunion and a trip home to sunny Florida,” Lexington-Fayette Animal Care & Control said in a social media post.
