A charity run put on by the entity that powers Lee County will step off just a few days into the new year.

The 14th Annual LCEC 5K to benefit United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades County will be held Saturday, Jan. 3, at Jim Jeffers Park in Cape Coral.

The LCEC Resolution 5K Run/Walk begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Kids’ Half-Mile Fun Run. The event will conclude with a Tot Trot and award presentation.

“At LCEC, giving back to the community is a core value,” LCEC officials stated in a release. “Last year the annual 5K event raised over $5,700 and year to date over $42,000. All proceeds go directly to United Way and are distributed among their many partner agencies supporting local individuals and families in need.”

Advance registration is $35 for adults (18 and up) and $20 for youth (17 and under). The price increases to $40 on Dec. 31 through race day. The Fun Run is $15 in advance and $20 on race day for children 12 and under.

The Tot Trot is free; participants must be age 4 or younger.

This event has the option for in-person attendance or virtual. Racers can sign up online, at packet pick-up, or in-person until 7 a.m. on race day through a mobile device.
