TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Florida A&M women’s basketball team closed out non-conference play with a much needed win Monday, topping Southeastern 71-65.
The Rattlers had four players in double figures, led by Tahnyjia Purifoy, who had 15 points in the win.
The Rattlers led by thirteen at the break. Southeastern would close the gap in the second half, trailing by one with less than five minutes to play, but FAMU held off the Fire to lock in their first win of the season.
“They had to understand that they are good and they are good as a team and understand that once we run our offense and do the things and read the d, we can get any shot that we want and we can make any shot and we can lock down defensively,” said head coach Bridgette Gordon. “It is huge to get a win. They can exhale, take the day off and get back in the cooker and get to work for our foes down the road.”
FAMU opens SWAC play this weekend, when they travel to Bethune-Cookman. Tipoff is set for 1:00 in Daytona Beach.
