  • December 30, 2025

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Many folks are taking down their Christmas trees this week and there’s a great way to recycle them.

Goats at the North Florida Wildlife Center think they’re downright delicious and they eat five carts full of branches a day!

The North Florida Wildlife Center is inviting folks to drop off their Christmas trees to help feed and entertain animals there.

Animal Programs Director Darian Dowse says lemurs like to play and hide in them and macaws enjoy picking off all the leaves.

“For Louie here, Christmas trees would be a really great way for him to utilize his beak,” Dowse said as she held a Scarlet macaw. “So out in his natural habitat, he would be using his beak to strip bark off of trees. He would be using his beak to preen his feathers, and so giving him a different plant to play with might help with preening as well.”

People can drop off their Christmas trees for recycling at the North Florida Wildlife Center at 1430 Cook Road in Lamont. That’s just off Highway 19 South in Jefferson County.
