Experts say outdoor and social activities help people stick to resolutions longer
On New Year’s Day, Orlando resident Trevor Bentley and his friends chose to spend the afternoon playing volleyball under sunny skies.
“It’s just a nice day,” Bentley said. “A good day to come out and enjoy the sun.”
Bentley says he’s keeping his goals simple this year, no strict resolutions, just making an effort to stay active outdoors whenever possible.
“No resolutions,” he said. “Just trying to stay outside. Stay active when I can.”
New Year’s resolutions remain a tradition for millions of Americans. According to a fitness resolutions survey by the Health & Fitness Association, approximately 96 million U.S. adults planned to prioritize health, fitness, or exercise in 2025.
Experts say outdoor activities like walking, pickleball, and volleyball can make it easier for people to stick to their goals, especially when those activities are social.
“Get outside, stay active, take advantage of it while you can,” Bentley said.
As cooler winter weather settles into Central Florida, parks and courts across the region are seeing more people turning their resolutions into reality, one game, walk, or workout at a time.
