Demonstrations took place throughout the country, with organizers calling it a movement to protest against “authoritarian power grabs.”

TAMPA, Fla. — People across the country gathered Saturday for “No Kings” demonstrations — including in the Tampa Bay area.

The national demonstrations were reportedly orchestrated by the 50501 Movement, with organizers calling it a protest against “authoritarian power grabs.”

“President Trump has doubled down. His administration is sending masked agents into our streets, terrorizing our communities. They are targeting immigrant families, profiling, arresting and detaining people without warrants. Threatening to overtake elections. Gutting healthcare, environmental protections, and education when families need them most,” the No Kings website says. “The president thinks his rule is absolute. But in America, we don’t have kings and we won’t back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty.”

The first ‘No Kings’ protests happened just six months into President Donald Trump’s return to the White House. On June 14, organizers said around 5 million Americans joined in demonstrations across the country. The protests coincided with the Army’s 250th anniversary as well as Trump’s 79th birthday.

On Saturday, more than 2,500 individual events were registered with the organization’s website, with at least one in every U.S. state and commonwealth.

In the Tampa Bay area, protests were held in multiple cities, including Tampa, Largo, St. Petersburg and Gulfport.
