Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway made the decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal this offseason and has had quite a few schools already pop up as potential landing spots.
Lagway has a ton of talent and upside. However, the reality of the situation is that he was unable to live up to the hype during his time at Florida.
There is still plenty of time for him to figure things out, but the pressure is beginning to mount.

When he originally committed to the Gators, Lagway was a five-star recruit who was ranked as the No. 1 quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class and the No. 3 overall player in the nation by 247 Sports.

Now that the portal has officially opened, a lot of eyes are watching to see what Lagway chooses to do. He is set to visit with Florida’s arch rival, the Florida State Seminoles. However, there is another SEC school who is showing interest in him.
According to a report from CBS Sports college football insider Matt Zenitz, the Missouri Tigers are one of the teams who are in the mix for Lagway.
“Among the early teams expected to be in the mix with Florida QB transfer DJ Lagway, per sources: Baylor, Louisville, Missouri and Virginia,” Zenitz wrote. “Lagway ranks as the third-best QB and 10th-best overall player in the transfer portal.”
During the 2025 college football season with the Gators, Lagway completed 63.2 percent of his pass attempts for 2,264 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. In his freshman season in 2024, he threw for 1,915 yards, 12 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
Right off the bat, the interception numbers stick out. Lagway will need to cut down on turnovers in order to reach his ceiling.

Missouri may not be the top-tier program that Lagway was hoping to star for when he originally committed to Florida. That being said, taking a step back from the extremely bright lights might be what’s best for him.
Only time will tell, but the time is coming for Lagway to make a decision. At least for now, the Tigers appear to have a legitimate chance at landing him in the portal.
