Florida gas prices lower than last year, but Venezuela crisis causes uncertainty

  • January 5, 2026

ORLANDO, Fla. – Gas prices in Florida to start 2026 are 29 cents-per-gallon lower than one year ago, according to AAA.

The auto agency, however, says recent developments in Venezuela have raised new concerns and gas prices could fluctuate in the coming weeks.

In Florida, Sunday’s state average of $2.83 per gallon was:

8 cents more than a week ago

15 cents less than a month ago

29 cents less than a year ago

“Florida gas prices are lower than a year ago because oil supplies have been steady and demand has softened compared to previous years,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA. “While global events can influence prices, there’s no indication yet that recent developments will have a significant effect.”

Look Back at 2025

Florida’s daily average price for gasoline in 2025 was $3.04 per gallon, about 25 cents less than in 2024.

Prices were lower last year largely because global oil production increased and demand growth slowed after the post-pandemic surge in 2024.

The highest daily average in 2025 was $3.23, compared to $3.64 in 2024. The lowest point in 2025 was $2.74, while 2024’s low was $2.99.

What’s Next?

AAA expects Florida gas prices to fluctuate modestly in the coming weeks, influenced by seasonal demand and global market conditions.

Regional Prices

Most expensive metro markets – West Palm Beach-Boca Raton ($3.00), Naples ($2.90), Gainesville ($2.90)

Least expensive metro markets – Crestview-Fort Walton Beach ($2.56), Panama City ($2.61), Pensacola ($2.63)

Ways to Save on Gasoline

Combine errands to limit driving time.

Drive conservatively. Avoid aggressive acceleration and speeding, which reduces fuel economy.

Remove excess weight in your vehicle. Every 100 pounds taken out of the vehicle improves fuel economy by 1-2 percent.

Shop around for the best gas prices in your community by using the AAA mobile app.

Pay with cash. Some retailers charge more per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card.
