A longtime favorite among seafood lovers in Kendall has officially arrived in Downtown Doral. FreshCo Fish Grill & Market, known for its fresh catch, laid-back atmosphere and Keys-inspired flavors, is now open and welcoming guests at its newest and largest location.
The expansion marks a major milestone for owners Mario and Maya Palazon, who first opened FreshCo in Kendall in 2018. Over the years, the restaurant and seafood market built a loyal following and gained national recognition, earning a spot among Yelp’s Best Restaurants in the U.S. in 2024. After several years of planning, FreshCo’s Doral location is now a reality.
Located in the heart of Downtown Doral’s growing dining scene, the new FreshCo fits right in alongside popular spots like Pura Vida, The Doral Yard, Bombay Darbar and Mister 01. With 127 seats, including outdoor patio seating, the restaurant is significantly larger than the original Kendall space and is already proving popular for both lunch and dinner.
From the moment guests walk in, the Florida Keys influence is unmistakable. Brightly colored lobster traps hang overhead, a Conch Republic flag decorates the wall, and playful rooster décor nods to Key West traditions. A mural of Fred the Tree — the iconic Australian pine from the old Seven Mile Bridge — adds a nostalgic touch, while a replica of the Southernmost Point buoy out front invites passersby to stop for a photo.
For Mario Palazon, a Key West native who spent more than two decades working as a seafood wholesaler, the design is deeply personal. The restaurant is meant to feel like a casual escape — a place where guests can slow down, enjoy fresh seafood and feel transported, even if only for an hour.
The menu stays true to what made FreshCo a standout in Kendall while introducing a few new offerings tailored to the Doral crowd. Fan favorites like blue crab cakes, conch fritters, fish dip and stone crabs are all available, alongside a new ceviche bar and dishes such as Bang Bang salmon. Fresh Florida hogfish — a staple for locals — remains a highlight and can be prepared grilled, blackened or fried.
FreshCo’s market component also carries over to the new location, allowing guests to purchase fresh fish and seafood to take home. Along with local catches, the Doral market includes options like corvina and Mediterranean branzino, reflecting the diverse tastes of the surrounding community.
A full bar, televisions for game days and plans for live music on weekends add to the relaxed Keys vibe. Expect reggae, island-inspired tunes and even a little Jimmy Buffett to round out the experience.
More than just a restaurant opening, FreshCo’s Downtown Doral debut represents the continued growth of a family-run business. The Palazons’ daughter, Mia, is now part of the day-to-day operations, gaining hands-on experience as the restaurant expands into its next chapter.
FreshCo Fish Grill & Market is now open in Downtown Doral, offering residents and visitors a new go-to spot for fresh seafood, tropical flair and a taste of the Keys — no road trip required.
