IF YOU’RE UNFAMILIAR, CAN YOU WALK US THROUGH WHAT YOU GUYS CAN DO FOR OUR COMMUNITY? WELL, FIRST OF ALL, CHRISTOPHER CENTRAL FLORIDA, WE’RE THE REGIONAL WORKFORCE BOARD, AND WE CAN DO RESUME SUPPORT, INTERVIEW SUPPORT. WE ALSO DO UPSKILLING AND TRAINING. WE CAN DO EMPLOYER CONNECTIONS TO HELP CONNECT PEOPLE TO THAT NEXT STEP. AND JUST LOTS OF OTHER JUST SUPPORT FOR REALLY ANYBODY, NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE IN YOUR CAREER JOURNEY. YEAH, IT’S A GREAT RESOURCE TO UTILIZE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO MAKE A CHANGE OR A PIVOT IN YOUR CAREER. LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT’S GOING ON OUT THERE THOUGH. IS IT IS IT A GOOD TIME TO LOOK FOR A NEW JOB? WHAT ARE YOU FINDING? IT’S COMPETITIVE. IT’S A COMPETITIVE WORKFORCE RIGHT NOW. BUT THERE ARE OPPORTUNITIES. THERE’S LOTS OF HIGH GROWTH INDUSTRIES IN CENTRAL FLORIDA THAT ARE GROWING AND ARE HIRING, BUT IT IS A COMPETITIVE PROCESS. AND WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF AI INTO INTO IT, YOU REALLY HAVE TO STAND OUT FOR EMPLOYERS. YEAH. BUT IF A RENAISSANCE HAPPENING OUT THERE IN THE WORKFORCE. RIGHT, WHAT CAN PEOPLE DO TO SET THEMSELVES APART AND GET THEMSELVES NOTICED? YEAH. WELL, A LOT OF PEOPLE, PEOPLE THINK THAT IT’S JUST YOUR RESUME. AND SO THEY SPEND ALL THIS TIME ON THEIR RESUME. BUT REALLY IT’S ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS. I THINK NETWORKING IS SUPER IMPORTANT. AND KNOWING YOUR VALUE AND KNOWING THAT THE VALUE THAT YOU BRING AND SO THAT YOU COULD SAY IT IN SITUATIONS OF THIS IS THE RESULTS THAT I BRING, NOT JUST THE JOB TITLE THAT’S ON MY RESUME. AND BEING VERY CONFIDENT IN THAT, OKAY, FOR ANYBODY WATCHING WHO HAS MAYBE BEEN TOYING AROUND WITH THE IDEA, WHAT ARE SOME SIGNS THAT IT IS TIME TO CHANGE OR PIVOT ROLES? SO A GOOD SIGN WOULD BE THAT YOU’RE MORE CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT’S OUT THERE THAN WHAT YOU’RE ENGAGED IN RIGHT NOW. THAT’S ALWAYS A GOOD SIGN. BUT JUST, YOU KNOW, DISCONTENTMENT, JUST DISSATISFIED WITH WHERE YOU ARE OR THAT YOUR PRIORITIES HAVE CHANGED. BECAUSE IF YOUR PRIORITIES OR VALUES HAVE CHANGED, IT MIGHT BE TIME FOR A CHANGE IN YOUR JOB. YOU KNOW, CHANGE CAN ALWAYS BE A LITTLE BIT SCARY. SO SCARY. YES. OVERWHELMING AT TIMES. SO WHAT ARE SOME OF THE MISCONCEPTIONS THAT ARE OUT THERE ABOUT, YOU KNOW, ESSENTIALLY QUOTE UNQUOTE STARTING OVER? YEAH. WELL, JUST THAT THAT YOU’RE STARTING AT THE BEGINNING, I THINK THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION IS THAT WHEN YOU CHANGE CAREERS, YOU HAVE TO START AT THE BEGINNING, AND THERE ARE A LOT OF SKILLS THAT TRANSFER IN TO OTHER CAREERS. ALSO, IS THAT IT’S TOO LATE. THERE IS NO AGE, REALLY. THAT IS THIS IS THE PERFECT AGE FOR A CAREER PIVOT. CAREER PIVOTS HAPPEN IN ALL AGES, SO IT’S NEVER REALLY TOO LATE. THOSE ARE SOME MISCONCEPTIONS. OKAY, CAREERSOURCE, OF COURSE YOU GUYS HELP NAVIGATE ALL OF THESE HURDLES THAT CAN BE OUT THERE, AND MAYBE THERE ARE SOME MORE PERCEIVED HURDLES THAN THAN AREN’T. BUT WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BIGGEST ONES THAT ARE OUT THERE, AND WHAT ARE THE BEST WAYS TO SORT OF CIRCUMNAVIGATE THEM? YEAH, I THINK SOME OF THE BIGGEST HURDLES THAT PEOPLE FACE ARE, NUMBER ONE FEAR, BECAUSE IT’S SCARY TO CHANGE CAREERS AND THEY ALSO JUST DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START. IF YOU’VE EVER TRIED TO START SOMETHING AND YOU DIDN’T KNOW WHERE TO START, YOU’RE JUST PARALYZED. AND I THINK THAT’S A HUGE HURDLE. AND SOMETHING THAT COULD HELP WITH THAT IS JUST HAVING SOMEBODY TO TO WALK THOSE THINGS WITH YOU, TO EXPLORE WITH YOU. MAYBE WHAT’S OUT THERE. AND THAT’S REALLY WHAT CAREERSOURCE WANTS TO DO, IS JUST HELP YOU EXPLORE WHAT’S OUT THERE AND THEN SEE IF YOU WANT TO TAKE THESE STEPS IN THAT DIRECTION. YOU KNOW, ONE OF THE BIGGEST CONCERNS, I FEEL LIKE I HEAR FROM SO MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE TRYING TO LOOK FOR A JOB IS, YOU KNOW, YOU COULD BE EXTREMELY QUALIFIED, YOU COULD HAVE EVERYTHING THAT THEY NEED ON PAPER. AND YET AND STILL YOU’RE APPLYING FOR JOBS AND YOU’RE NOT QUITE GETTING WHAT YOU WANT. WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE? WELL, THE RESUME JUST GETS YOU IN THE DOOR. WHAT REALLY CLOSES THE DEAL IS KNOWING YOUR VALUE AND BEING ABLE TO STORYTELL STORYTELL YOUR VALUE AND WHAT YOU BRING TO THAT, WHAT YOU BRING TO THAT EMPLOYER. THAT’S A SKILL IN AND OF ITSELF.
