Dramatic police bodycamera video shows officers responding before shooting and killing a Hialeah man after he fatally stabbed his mother and stabbed his grandmother and sister.
The footage shows the fatal Aug. 21, 2024 encounter with 30-year-old Alex Gonzalez Jr. after he stabbed the three family members at a home on West 42nd Place near West 5th Court.
A family friend said Gonzalez had mental health issues and lived at the home with his mother, Madeleyne Gonzalez, his grandmother, Rosa Gonzalez, and his then 17-year-old sister, Amanda Gonzalez.
Hialeah police said they shot a stabbing suspect to death in Hialeah. NBC6’s Julia Bagg reports that the two survivors are expected to survive.
Hialeah Police officers had responded to the home after receiving a call for a domestic disturbance and were met by one victim who had been stabbed, officials said.
The video shows officers arriving and encountering one woman who is lying on the floor inside covered in blood.
Another woman is also bleeding is later seen on the ground outside, and the third woman can be seen staggering outside the home with the help of an officer.
“I got somebody here stabbed, I got somebody stabbed,” an officer says in the footage. “The son is in the back armed with a knife.”
Officers are seen surrounding a doorway in the back of the home as two of them carry a woman out of the home from a room that appears to be covered in blood.
Officials said officers were rendering aid when there was a “confrontation” between them and the suspect, and they opened fire.
The suspect and his mother died at the scene, police said. The other victims were taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital and survived.

A memo last month from the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office said the two officers who opened fire were legally justified in the shooting of Gonzalez.
According to the memo, Gonzalez had appeared in a narrow hallway holding a knife and heading toward the officers when they opened fire.
The incident began when the grandmother was woken up by Gonzalez who started stabbing her “without saying a word,” the memo said.
His mother and sister tried to help but they were also attacked and stabbed multiple times, the memo said.
Madeleyne Gonzalez would’ve turned 50 the day after the stabbing, family members told NBC6 at the time.
“That was my toughest task today, was to let both of them know that my mom’s daughter, my sister, had passed away and it was tough to tell my niece that her mom had passed away,” said her brother, Mayke Gonzalez.
