A NEW LOCATION HERE ON SOUTH EAST 47TH. TERRENCE, THE CITY SAYS THE CHANGES WERE MAINLY TO PRIORITIZE SAFETY, BUT NOT EVERYONE. I SPOKE TO LIKES THE UPDATES. I THE OLD WAY. THEY DID IT WHERE THE BIKES ARE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET. EVERYBODY WAS STANDING THERE AT THE CITY SAYS THE EVENT LOOKS DIFFERENT THIS TIME WITHOUT THE MOTORCYCLES DRIVING THROUGH THE PATHWAYS BECAUSE IT ALLOWS FOR EASY ACCESS FOR PEDESTRIANS. >> AND EMERGENCY VEHICLES. AND HERE YOU DON’T EVEN REALLY GET TO SEE THE MOTORCYCLES AS MUCH. WHEN I ASKED PEOPLE IF THEY FELT UNSAFE AT PAST BIKE NIGHTS, THEY SAY IT NEVER REALLY CROSSED THEIR MINDS UNTIL NOW. >> I DIDN’T. THOUGHT IT HELPED SAFE. BUT I GUESS I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY THEY WOULD THINK THAT I NEVER HAD SAFETY CONCERNS. I UNDERSTAND WHERE THEY’RE COMING FROM. NEW OPEN CARRY LAWS ARE ALSO BRINGING A NEW PERSPECTIVE TO THE CONVERSATION. Cape Coral’s Bike Night has returned with a new layout on Southeast 47th Terrace, aiming to enhance safety, according to the city. The changes have received mixed reactions from attendees.Stacey Preroast, a Bike Night attendee, said, “I like the old way they did it where the bikes were driving down the street.”The city explained that the event’s new layout, which excludes motorcycles from driving through pathways, is designed to facilitate pedestrian and emergency vehicle access.Christine O’Neill, another attendee, expressed her preference for the previous setup, saying, “It was much better on the street, you don’t even really get to see the motorcycles as much.”When asked about safety concerns at past Bike Nights, attendees mentioned that it was not a significant issue for them. The introduction of new open carry laws has also influenced the conversation around the event.Alex Rodriguez from Haus of Trikes & Bikes noted, “You will find a lot of people that are very pro-second amendment, a lot of them are bikers.”Some attendees appreciate the city’s efforts to ensure emergency vehicle access in case of threats like an active shooter.
