Another one of Auburn’s offensive starters is set to play for former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn in Tallahassee.
Xavier Chaplin committed to Florida State on Friday, according to reports from CBS Sports and On3. He played one season at Auburn after transferring from Virginia Tech following the 2024 season.
Chaplin was one of Auburn’s highest-ranked transfers last offseason, but never quite lived up to expectations on the Plains. He was solid in pass protection during the second half of the season, but was inconsistent over the course of the year.
Penalties were his biggest issue, often getting flagged for false starts. According to Pro Football Focus, Chaplin finished the season with 12 total penalties, which was the second most among SEC offensive linemen.
He joins former starting quarterback Ashton Daniels as the second Auburn transfer to commit to Florida State. The transfer portal officially opened on Jan. 2 and will remain open for players to enter until Jan. 16. Keep up with all of Auburn’s incoming and outgoing players here.
