I live on Galen Drive, the same street where “Doris” lived.
Doris was an older woman who, sadly, recently passed away. Doris had a beautiful daily routine that many of us came to learn and quietly cherish. Every morning around 6 a.m., she would go out for a bike ride. Around 8 a.m., you could see her patiently walking her little dog in a stroller along Galen Drive, the street where she lived.
Later in the morning, around 11, she would be back outside again, feeding the squirrels and the birds near the entrance of 251 Galen. You could also often see her tending to the flowers around her building, the yellow building on the corner of Galen and Crandon Blvd.
It is truly sad to know that we will no longer see her following this wonderful routine that brought such calm and peace to our mornings. Her comings and goings along this street will be deeply missed. I don’t know the details of her passing but I would love for the people who live on Key Biscayne to know that Doris truly loved walking its streets.
As a small tribute, there is now a heart with little birds placed on the tree where she used to stand every morning feeding them. On the day she passed, the birds were flying all around the sky. I don’t know if she saw them one last time to say goodbye or if they were honoring her.
In any case, this is my story about Doris. I’m sure those who knew her better have many more stories to tell. It would be lovely if your newspaper could share the peaceful and beautiful life Doris lived on the streets of Key Biscayne.
Warm regards,
Patricia Rodriguez
