Lee County deputies are investigating a deadly shooting on Fort Myers Beach, where homeowner Carlos Gonzalez was arrested after calling 911 to report he had shot his friend.Neighbors reported being awakened by deputies knocking on their doors early in the morning. After midnight, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a blue home off Estero Boulevard and Madison Court following reports of a shooting. Despite attempts to render aid, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Gonzalez was detained by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.Neighbor Tania Eroshevich expressed her shock at the incident occurring so close to her home. “Something like this happening is very sad and disturbing,” she said.Investigators were seen entering and exiting the home, with several Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputy cars and a mobile command center surrounding the neighborhood.According to LCSO, when deputies arrived on the scene, they found a handgun on the kitchen counter, as well as two bottles of wine and two glasses. Depuites also found two additional empty bottles of wine in the trash can of the kitchen.According to LCSO, Gonzalez did not call 911 immediatley after the shooting, which delayed emergency services, and left units short on time to render aid to the victim. Deputies also noted that Gonzalez appeared to be intoxicated. Neighbors described Gonzalez as an architect from Fort Lauderdale who is rebuilding after Hurricane Ian. He was arrested for manslaughter and transported to the Lee County Jail.”Our community obviously has been through a lot,” Eroshevich said. “And having a, I’m not real sure if it was a murder or suicide or what, but it’s very sad and disturbing that it happened in our backyard.
