Rosa Hernandez told NBC6 on Monday that her 85-year-old husband didn’t see anyone in the road when he was driving.
“I don’t know what happened,” she said. “He don’t see nobody.”
According to the report, the victim was in a wheelchair going across Palm Avenue when he was struck by a 2011 Honda Pilot.
The Honda pushed the victim along the roadway until the victim and the wheelchair were pulled under the vehicle and run over, and the SUV left the scene, the report said.
The victim was found unresponsive with a head injury and was rushed to Hialeah hospital but was later pronounced dead. Their identity wasn’t released.
A witness had taken a photo of the Honda Pilot and the vehicle and Hernandez were later found when he arrived at his home in it, the report said.
When the SUV was examined, a detective found a pair of glasses attached to the hood and blood on the bumper, the report said.
“He said I don’t see nothing,” Rosa Hernandez said. “I want to know what is possible to do.”
Hernandez was arrested and booked into jail. Records showed he was being held without bond.
