The Sanibel Recreation Center reported on upcoming programs and activities.

Kids Tumbling with All Out Mobile Training will take place on Jan. 14 through Feb. 4 on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. for grades K-3 and from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for grades 4-8. The cost is $60 for members and $85 for non-members for the session or $20 for members and $25 for non-members for a weekly drop-in. Registration is required.

Presented by SanCap Native Plant Design, Island Roots: A Native Gardening Series will be held on Jan. 15 from noon to 1:30 p.m. The session will be on “Colorful Native Plants: Can I have color and biodiversity? Yes, you can!” Attendees will receive seeds, cuttings or live plants tailored to the session. The cost is $90 for members and $110 for non-members for the series or $25 for members and $30 for non-members per session. Registration is required.

Thrive On Thursday will take place on Jan. 15 at noon. The Sanibel Fire and Rescue District will present “Electrical Vehicle Safety 101.” Attendees will learn best practices for charging, storage and everyday use to keep them, their family and the community safe. Registration is required.

Open to grades K-8, a Kickball League will take place from Jan. 16 through Feb. 20 on Fridays from 5 to 6 p.m. The cost is $26 for members and $32 for non-members. Registration is required.

Teen Scene: Pizza and a Movie will take place on Jan. 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. The program is open to grades 6-9. The cost is $10 for members and $13 for non-members. Registration is required.

The city’s Reduce Your Waste Size Series will be held on Jan. 17 from 10 to 11 a.m. with Sanibel Chief Resilience Officer Ashlee Painter. The workshop will be on “Energy Reduction.” Attendees will learn ways to reduce their energy usage and protect themselves from “energy vampires” in their home. The workshop is free, but registration is required.

From Jan. 19 through May 11, the Coastal Dance Company will offer youth Dance Classes on Mondays from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. for ballet/tap and from 3:15 to 4 p.m. for jazz/hip-hop. The cost is $220 for members and $264 for non-members for the series, $65 for members and $80 for non-members for Sessions 1-3, and $32 for members and $40 for non-members for Session 4. Registration is required.

Picture Perfect: 5 Weeks to Better Photos will be held on Jan. 19 at 5 p.m. with Casey Bradley Gent. Attendees will understand the basics of a professional photographer. The session will be on “On Location: Scenic Shots.” The cost is $90 for members and $110 for non-members for the series or $20 for members and $25 for non-members per session. Registration is required.

Get to Know Your Island will be held on Jan. 20 at noon. It will highlight the Charitable Foundation of the Islands. Light refreshments will be served. The program is free and open to the public; registration is required. The speaker series is designed to connect the community with people and organizations that make Sanibel unique. Each program will feature a local business or nonprofit sharing what they do, how the public can get involved and why they are an essential part of island life.

In partnership with Fashion First Workshops, a Sewing Class will be held on Jan. 21 from noon to 2:30 p.m. The session will be on “Learn To Hem And Sew A Button.” Attendees will learn practical skills for every day. The cost is $50 for members and $75 for non-members. Registration is required.

Sound Bowl Healing with Dani will take place on Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Registration is required.

The center is open on Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. to5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Beach parking permits are available for purchase.
