A tip from the FBI led officers with the Port St. Lucie Police Department to the home of a man accused of making threats to kill or injure others. According to the police report, Aria Asghari was arrested on a second-degree felony charge of sending a written or electronic threat to kill or cause bodily injury. His arrest came following a tip from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The police report has been heavily redacted, so it’s unclear what exactly Asghari is accused of writing. WPBF 25 News spoke with Brittany Holly, a spokesperson for the PSLPD, who explained the information they received from the FBI. “There were some concerning emails that were sent that entailed bomb making and things of that nature,” she said. Holly said the emails were sent to a woman who lives in another state and had a prior relationship with Asghari. The woman reported the emails to the FBI before they contacted the PSLPD. According to the document, “Asghari, who was from Iran, was previously atheist, but became ‘super religious,’ believed he was the next Messiah, and expressed sympathy for mass shooters.” “We investigated thoroughly and vetted it thoroughly and found that there was probable cause to make an arrest, which happened on the 9th of January, so he was taken into custody without incident,” Holly said. Asghari was booked in the St. Lucie County Jail; no mugshot has been posted. Records show he was Baker Acted, and a risk protection order has been filed. “We are here to support the community and protect the community. We want you to talk to us, and if there is something of concern, like this email that was exchanged during the investigation that had written threats to kill and do bodily harm, that’s something we want to notify or be notified of and take the appropriate action and investigation to keep our community safe,” Holly said. WPBF 25 News asked Holly if the threats made were specifically towards the woman who reported the emails or if they were made to the general public. Holly said, to a certain degree, both. Court records show no prior arrests or charges against Asghari in St. Lucie County.
