A prominent South Florida restaurateur whose name is synonymous with upscale Italian dining was arrested this week on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge following a late-night dispute at a Palm Beach County residence, according to court records and law enforcement affidavits.
Louis Joseph “Louie” Bossi, 58, the chef, partner, and namesake of Louie Bossi’s Ristorante in Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale, was taken into custody by Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies early Monday after his wife called 911 to report an escalating argument that allegedly turned physical.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the couple became embroiled in a dispute in their bedroom over prescription medication shortly after midnight. During the argument, deputies allege Bossi threw a water bottle at his wife, missing her, before advancing toward her aggressively.
The affidavit states that Bossi allegedly grabbed his wife by the hair at the back of her head and pushed her against a wall. She told deputies she extended her hand to prevent her face from striking the wall, at which point Bossi allegedly grabbed her right wrist and pulled her toward the bedroom door while screaming for her to leave the house.
While speaking with a 911 dispatcher, the woman reported that Bossi was shouting, “I’m going to kill you,” according to the affidavit.
A responding deputy documented visible bruising and scratches on the woman’s right wrist. She declined medical treatment at the scene, records show. Deputies described her as visibly shaken, crying, and fearful during the encounter.
Bossi acknowledged to deputies that a verbal argument occurred but offered a different account of the physical interaction. He told investigators that his wife “aggressively approached him,” prompting him to place his hands on her shoulders to keep distance between them, according to the report.
Bossi was handcuffed at the scene and transported to the Palm Beach County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of simple domestic battery. Jail records indicate he was released Tuesday afternoon after posting a $1,000 bond, having spent just under 24 hours in custody.
Neither Bossi nor representatives of Big Time Restaurant Group, which operates the restaurants bearing his name, responded to phone calls or email inquiries seeking comment Tuesday evening.
Louie Bossi’s Ristorante first opened on Fort Lauderdale’s Las Olas Boulevard in 2015 and quickly became a dining destination. A Boca Raton location on Palmetto Park Road closed temporarily after a kitchen fire in April 2025 and reopened in November following extensive renovations inspired by Italy’s Amalfi Coast.
As with all criminal cases, the charge against Bossi is an allegation. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
