ONE, JEN, EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE SOME RAIN ON THE RADAR THIS MORNING, MOST OF THE GULF COAST IS STILL DEALING WITH A SERIOUS DROUGHT FOR PEOPLE LIVING ON FRESHWATER CANALS IN CAPE CORAL. THAT MEANS BOTH SITTING ON THE BOTTOM OF NEARLY EMPTY WATERWAYS. >> THE FIRST PROBABLY 2025 YEARS. IT STAYED FULL MOST OF THE YEAR. THE LAST PROBABLY 4 OR 5 IT’S LIKE THIS MORE THAN NOT. >> WE SPOKE WITH BROS BARTON LAST MONTH WHO SAYS SHE CAN’T EVEN TAKE HER BOAT OUT BECAUSE OF THE LOW WATER LEVELS IN HER CAN NOW, HOWEVER, THE CITY JUST REVEALED THERE WILL SOON BE SOLUTION TO REHYDRATE CAPE CORAL’S, FRESHWATER CANALS. THEY ANNOUNCED THE APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT TO BUILD A NEW WATER INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT DESIGNED TO IMPROVE THE CITY’S WATER SUPPLY, WHICH INCLUDES A NEW WATER MAIN AND PALM STATION TO BE BUILT IN CHARLOTTE COUNTY AT THE FORMER SOUTHWEST AGGREGATES MINE. THE SYSTEM WILL MOVE EXCESS WATER FROM ACE 570 ACRE RESERVOIR HOLDING UP TO 1.5 BILLION GALLONS TO HELP REFILL CAPE CORAL’S FRESHWATER CANALS. CITY OFFICIALS SAY THE PROJECT SUPPORTS THE EXPANSION OF THE CITY’S RECLAIMED WATER SYSTEM AND HELP SECURE A RELIABLE LONG-TERM WATER SUPPLY.
