A Cape Coral jewelry store was the scene of a terrifying robbery, and now the search is on for the suspects involved.
WINK News previously reported on the incident where three men broke into Tio Jewelers, restraining the owner while stealing valuable items.
In an emotional 911 call, the owner’s wife witnessed the robbery unfold live on security cameras.
“I just entered on my camera, my security camera. These two thieves, they have him on the floor,” she said. “There’s two thieves inside of the jewelry store and they have him.”
She provided a detailed description to the operator, hoping it would lead to help for her husband.
“They are covering their heads with scarves,” she said, referring to the suspects.
During the call, she was unaware that a third person was waiting in a getaway car behind the store. As of Thursday, Cape Coral police have apprehended the driver, 52-year-old Ivel Sanchez Rivera.
The 911 operator reassured the woman, saying, “It’s okay. We have help on the way just stay on the line with me.”
The robbers opened safes, took jewelry from display cases, and tied the husband at his wrists.
“He has his hands tied. He’s trying to call the police we have a panic button,” she said.
Officers arrived six minutes into the call, but the suspects had already fled.
“They are leaving, they are leaving by the back of the building,” she said.
Jewelry, money, and a gun were taken during the robbery on that Tuesday. More than a week later, officers continue to search for the two suspects who broke in.
