Back in 1960, the Orlando Sentinel (and its sister newspaper, the Orlando Evening Star) were proud to introduce their readers to latest in newspaper photography technology.

“It’s the new color truck, especially equipped and designed for the Sentinel-Star’s color photographer, Jack McCollum.”

McCollum was shown standing on a special hydraulic lift that would raise the photographer 8 feet into the air over the truck to get a special view of breaking news events.

The Sentinel also reported, “cost of this equipment was $3,500” – which would be more than $38,000 today.
