TAMPA — A man was arrested last week after admitting he shot and killed a dog in retaliation for an attack on his own pet, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded to the 15300 block of Otto Road around 8:10 a.m. Jan. 7 after a reported shooting, according to the sheriff’s office. Aaron Allen, 41, told deputies he shot a 4-year-old pit bull after it attacked his 16-year-old Pomeranian the day before. Both dogs died from their injuries, deputies said.

Allen was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals with a weapon, armed trespassing, discharging a firearm on residential property and shooting into a building, according to the sheriff’s office.
