Jacksonville Police Chief Jarad Phelps confirmed an officer with the department was killed, but he did not disclose the identity.
“Any loss of a member of the department hurts,” Phelps told WITN in a phone call.
Camp Lejeune and NCIS have not yet released more information about the deadly shooting.
