Woman found guilty in 2023 Havana home invasion robbery involving elderly couple

  • January 17, 2026

GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – A woman was found guilty Thursday for her role in a June 2023 home invasion robbery that occurred in Havana, according to the State Attorney’s Office for the Second Judicial Circuit of Florida.

Tracy Ruby was found guilty after a four-day trial earlier this week, the state attorney’s office wrote in a press release Friday. A guilty verdict was returned for numerous charges, including home invasion with a firearm, grand theft of a motor vehicle and burglary of a dwelling with a person assaulted.

She’s one of two people who were charged with the home invasion robbery, which involved an elderly couple, the state attorney revealed. Deontavious Akins was also charged, but he was found not guilty, per the release.

Ruby’s guilty verdict comes nearly three years after the robbery unfolded, the state attorney revealed. Ruby was a former girlfriend of the victims’ son, per the release.

An investigation revealed that Ruby “received a recorded call from the victims’ son in which she admitted that ‘it was [her] idea,’” the state attorney wrote.

During the morning of June 17, 2023, the elderly couple was awakened to Ruby and “a male who was unknown to them,” according to the statement.

The state attorney says Ruby took multiple valuable items from the couple’s home, including money, jewelry and other valuables, while a male suspect held the victims at gunpoint.

“The gunman forced the victims into a bathroom, and once the robbery was complete, both Tracy Ruby and the gunman stole the victims’ vehicle and headed north towards Bainbridge,” according to the state attorney’s statement.

The victim’s vehicle was eventually recovered by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office.

The release went on to reveal that Akins was developed as a suspect through cellphone records. His phone’s location indicated that he was at the scene of the robbery during the crime and in the area where the victims’ vehicle was recovered.

Four days after the incident transpired, both Ruby and Akins were located and led police on a chase before crashing in a wooded area, according to the press release. The two were taken into custody shortly after.

Ruby is expected to be sentenced on March 11.
