Jaycee Park in Cape Coral has been closed for nearly a year with fences surrounding the area.

The City of Cape Coral recently provided an update on the park’s progress.

The city shared photos showing that the foundation for the bandshell and bistro has been poured, and preparations for two restrooms are underway.

Crews are also working on the overlook boardwalk.

The city plans to include amenities such as picnic areas, fitness stations, and a playground at the park.

Some neighbors in Cape Coral have been vocal for the last year about their dissatisfaction with the renovation of Jaycee Park.

Residents have marched around the park, holding signs to express their opposition to the changes being made.

Despite their protests, construction has continued.

Jaycee Park’s renovation has still divided neighbors one year later.

Some residents are excited about the changes, while others are concerned about increased traffic and miss the tranquility of the old park.

“I think that they need to realize that this is for everybody,” said Rick Perry, a Cape Coral resident. “The person living inland five miles has just as much right to come here and use the park and enjoy it with their kids or grandkids as the people who live local and walk their dogs.”

Cheryl Vandevoord, another resident, said, “I just like quiet, being able to reflect, and taking my grandkids to the park. I just don’t know where else I could go to have that quietness.”

The city outlined the next steps in the construction process, which include underground plumbing and electrical work, boardwalk framing, and the installation of a splash pad.

The park is expected to be completed in April 2026.
