TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – With cold temperatures expected, Quincy-based dog rescue Champs Chance is urgently asking for temporary foster homes to help keep its animals safe and warm.
Champs Chance, an outdoor rescue, is experiencing problems with its kennel heaters as temperatures drop. The organization is seeking emergency cold-weather fosters through next Sunday to ensure the dogs are protected from the elements.
Foster coordinator Daniella Flores said staff and volunteers are taking every precaution they can, including dressing dogs in sweaters and adding hay to kennels. Still, she said, extreme cold makes placement in homes the safest option.

“A lot of people think just because dogs are animals and have fur that the cold doesn’t really affect them, and that’s not true,” Flores said. “When you hit those freezing temperatures at night and they’re out there with the wind, and you add in all the other external factors, it’s very uncomfortable for them, and we want to do our best to avoid that.”
The rescue is looking for about 50 fosters to help get dogs out of the cold as temperatures drop.
