TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida A&M University alumnus Darrick McGhee Sr., pastor of Bible Based Church, gave the keynote address at FAMU’s 2026 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation.
The annual event was held Friday at 10:10 a.m. in Lee Hall Auditorium to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

President Marva B. Johnson said in a press release that McGhee’s reflections on Dr. King’s impact would “inspire and resonate” with the FAMU community.
“His keynote address will challenge attendees to consider the role of higher education in developing leaders equipped to serve with purpose, integrity, and compassion,” Johnson said in a press release.
McGhee received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and religion from FAMU.

“This morning I speak to you because like you, I am a dreamer,” McGhee said in his keynote address.
Along with being a pastor, McGhee is president and CEO of Strategic Inflection Point, LLC, Chief Operating Officer of Johnson & Blanton, LLC and director of Legislative Affairs for the Executive Office of the Governor of Florida, per a FAMU press release.
McGhee spoke to audience members on the importance of community and believing in your dream despite the odds.
“When you meet a Rattler, that Rattler is obligated to help you excel,” McGhee said in his address.
