The death of the 70-year-old woman was disclosed in a quarterly theme park injury report released by the state.
WASHINGTON — A 70-year-old woman died after riding the Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster at Universal Studios last year, a Florida report revealed.
The woman died in November after becoming unresponsive while riding the indoor roller coaster at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. The report stated that the woman became unresponsive while on the ride Nov. 25 and later died at a nearby hospital. Her name was not released.
The death was disclosed in a quarterly theme park injury report released by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and first reported by the Orlando Sentinel.
The department noted that the report reflects only information available at the time of the incident and doesn’t provide additional details about what may have caused the medical episode.Â
Since its opening in 2004, the Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster has been connected to 21 reported medical incidents, according to a report from WFLA, a local Florida TV station. Past complaints associated with the ride have ranged from nausea and dizziness to more serious issues, including a reported seizure and a vertebra fracture.
The circumstances surrounding the woman’s death were not detailed in the state report, and it was unclear whether any underlying medical conditions played a role.
While rare, theme park ride-related deaths are not unheard of, with two happening in the months before the November incident.Â
In October, a woman died after riding the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland in California, police confirmed. The woman was in her 60s, but was not identified by police.Â
And in September, a 32-year-old man died after riding the Stardust Racers roller coaster at Universal’s Epic Universe theme park in Florida.Â
