Tampa Bay will be saying goodbye to at least four GameStop locations as the video game giant is set to shutter hundreds of stores to start 2026.
TAMPA, Fla. — Videogame giant GameStop is starting off the year by closing hundreds of stores across the U.S. — including several locations in Florida and the Tampa Bay area.
While the company has not released an official list of the stores affected, its website already lists hundreds of locations as closed. A spokesperson for GameStop did not respond to a request for confirmation.
The company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last year that it would close “a significant number of additional stores in fiscal 2025,” which ends on Jan. 31, 2026. This also comes after GameStop closed 590 U.S. stores during the previous fiscal year.
GameStop shares are down substantially from last May, when influential investor Keith Gill, popularly known as “Roaring Kitty,” appeared online for the first time in three years to declare his support for GameStop. Gill helped ignite a “meme” stock craze in early 2021, when GameStop’s stock price soared above $120.
Based on the list on the company’s website, Tampa Bay is set to lose GameStop locations in Clearwater, Port Richey, Sebring and Tampa. Here’s a look at all the GameStop stores closing across Florida.
