FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — Hundreds of people lined the streets of Fort Pierce Monday to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., celebrating unity, community, and togetherness during the city’s annual MLK parade.

Families, students, and community members filled the parade route as marching bands, cheerleaders, school groups, and decorated floats passed by. Many attendees told CBS12 News the event was about more than a celebration, it was a chance for the community to come together and reflect on Dr. King’s message of peace and equality.

“This is about unity,” said attendee Chelsea Cavalli. “Seeing everyone together like this means a lot.”
