Disney Springs is full of some of our favorite shopping and dining finds, but not all of them get to stick around until the end of time.

Francesca’s in Disney Springs

We’ve seen shops suddenly go out before, a few of them without any warning, and most recently, Sprinkles Cupcakes closed all of their locations nationwide, including the one in Disney Springs. Now, it’s looking like something similar may be happening, because another chain is planning to close ALL of their stores soon — does that mean the Disney Springs location will go away too? Here’s what we know so far.

According to People, Francesca’s stores are all closing after being in business for 25 years. The first location opened in Houston, Texas, in 1999, and was known for selling fashionable clothes and accessories for women.

The company’s website is currently hosting a big sale, listing all clearance items for $15 and under, but there’s been no update about when their physical stores around the globe will be closing their doors. The company is currently in the process of liquidating its inventory, including merchandise that hasn’t been sold. People reached out to the company on January 17th for comment, but have not received any reply at this time. Back in December 2020, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection due to financial issues exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, 558 of the company’s 700 in-person stores remained open. Then, in January 2021, “Francesca’s Holdings Corporation announced the sale of ‘substantially all of its assets’ to TerraMar Capital’s affiliate Francesca’s Acquisition LLC in an investor notice,” and the company would be doing business outside the bankruptcy process.

However, according to Sourcing Journal, by the beginning of 2024, vendors began complaining that they were waiting for payments for months at a time. In a statement regarding the issue, the company said, “We are working through some short-term changes with select vendors. Francesca’s business is strong, and we look forward to a fruitful 2024.” While the company did survive 2024, it’s clear with the incoming closures that the issues are far from entirely solved.
