VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – A man has been arrested in Florida after police say he scammed a woman in the Virginia City Highlands.
In May of this year, detectives with the Storey County Sheriff’s Office were alerted to a significant fraud case in the Virginia City Highlands.
The victim told police that, after around one month of contact with the suspects, people purporting to be FBI agents came to her residence over the course of several weeks and had taken a significant amount of money from her by threatening arrest if she did not comply.
In August, law enforcement officials in Key West, Florida notified the Storey County Sheriff’s Office that one suspect, Jeoffrey White, was arrested on a warrant from Virginia City, as well as on marijuana charges in Florida.
Detectives traveled to Florida and extradited White back to Nevada where he was booked into the Storey County Detention Facility.
White is being held on a bond of $200,000. No information was provided about any other suspects.
