TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) – A House committee approved legislation that would expand the transgender care ban put in place three years ago, making it a third-degree felony for anyone who helps with banned prescriptions or procedures for minors.
The bill would allow the attorney general to investigate and sue health care providers on behalf of patient parents.
Florida politics:
People getting treatment before the ban was in place are grandfathered in and won’t be affected by the change.
Florida is among 20 states that have enacted laws restricting or banning treatment, even though it’s been available in the United States for more than a decade and is endorsed by major medical associations.
