The Sanibel Recreation Center reported on upcoming programs and activities.

In partnership with Fashion First Workshops, a Sewing Class will be held on Jan. 21 from noon to 2:30 p.m. The session will be on “Learn To Hem And Sew A Button.” Attendees will learn practical skills for every day. The cost is $50 for members and $75 for non-members. Registration is required.

Sound Bowl Healing with Dani will take place on Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Registration is required.

A collaboration with the Sanibel Public Library and MacIntosh Books + Paper, One Community, One Book will meet on Jan. 22 at noon. The monthly book club is designed to bring neighbors together through literature with local ties. “Sanibel’s Story,” by island historian Betty Anholt, will be discussed. Sanibel Historical Museum and Village docent Ginny Darby will interview her about her book, and Anholt will share personal stories from her more than 50 years as a member of the island community. Light refreshments will be provided, with baked goods from Lisabeth Girr. Registration is required.

Coffee & Code Cafe with the city’s Planning Department will take place on Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. Enjoy a casual gathering while getting an easy-to-understand overview of the city’s Codes. It will include small breakout sessions to ask questions. Registration is required.

The Sanibel Fire and Rescue District will offer complimentary blood pressure testing on Jan. 26 at 9:30 a.m. in the lobby. Open to the public; no registration is required.

Picture Perfect: 5 Weeks to Better Photos will be held on Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. with Casey Bradley Gent. Attendees will understand the basics of a professional photographer. The session will be on “Crop and Compose.” The cost is $90 for members and $110 for non-members for the series or $20 for members and $25 for non-members per session. Registration is required.

Get to Know Your Island will be held on Jan. 27 at noon. The program will highlight the Island Water Association. The speaker series is designed to connect the community with people and organizations that make Sanibel unique. Light refreshments will be served. It is free and open to the public; registration is required.

Wellness Wednesday will take place on Jan. 28 at noon. The program will be on “Unlocking The Keys To Extending Your Health Span.” Registration is required.

A trip to the Revs Institute Auto Museum of Naples will take place on Jan. 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The world-class automotive museum showcases the history, design and innovation of classic cars. Open to ages 18 and older. A self-pay lunch in Naples is planned after the visit. The cost is $44 for members and $47 for non-members and includes general admission, a one-hour docent tour guide and transportation via city van. Registration is required.

The center is open on Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. to5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Beach parking permits are available for purchase.
