The Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club recently welcomed Susie Wilson as its guest speaker at a meeting. Having Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), she shared how the rare and complex genetic disorder is not a barrier to possibilities, but a lens through which courage, adaptability and determination come into focus. Wilson has been involved with the OI Foundation since 1992, served on the board for six years and co-chaired the Tampa OI Support Group for over 20 years. She has chaired multiple fundraisers and spoken at the national and regional OI conferences and now co-chairs the regional support group. At a following meeting, the club welcomed Rotarian Richard Birney. He shared information about the Sanibel Pier Project, a public-private partnership between the city, citizen committee and Charitable Foundation of the Islands. With no FEMA funds available for the pier’s post-hurricane repairs, the city approved private fundraising efforts and the community is stepping up to raise over $400,000. The club meets on Fridays at 7:30 a.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. For more information, visit sanibelrotary.org.
