The proposed changes come as the county’s enrollment rates decline.
PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — Pinellas County Schools is recommending changes to the district as enrollment rates continue to decline.
At a school board workshop meeting Tuesday, Superintendent Kevin Hendrick proposed the following changes to five Pinellas County campuses:

The proposal would expand Oldsmar Elementary into a K-8 school.Beginning in the 2026-27 school year, all students who attend fifth grade at Oldsmar Elementary will be able to attend sixth grade at Oldsmar K-8.
McMullen-Booth Elementary
The proposal would create a North County Employee Child Care Center at McMullen-Booth Elementary.Buildings six and seven would be repurposed to serve ages six months through three years.
The proposal would close Cross Bayou Elementary at the end of the 2025-26 school year.Students attending Cross Bayou will be rezoned to Bardmoor Elementary or Pinellas Central Elementary, depending on their home address. Cross Bayou’s Deaf/Hard of Hearing program will transition to Walsingham Oaks K-8 in the 2026-27 school year, beginning with sixth and seventh-grade students. Eighth graders will transition in 2027-28.
The proposal would close Disston Academy, an Educational Alternative Services (EAS) program, at the end of the 2025-26 school year. The district has the capacity to serve all students currently enrolled at Disston within established EAS programs.Teleschool students located at Disston Academy will relocate to Bayside High School at the end of the 2025-26 year.Upon the school’s closure, the property would be sold or leased.
