Rreal Tacos is set to take over the former Haiku spot in downtown Tampa at 808 N. Franklin St.
Expect chips and queso ($8.99), costra tacos (a crispy brown crust of cheese griddled around a meat of your choice, $6.99) and house to Hennessy margaritas ($10-$15). Rreal Tacos (yes, it’s spelled with two r’s) builds themed programming around holidays like Valentine’s Day and Christmas.
This will be the Atlanta-based Mexican street food-style restaurant’s first venture into Florida. The owners hope to be open by the end of the year with no firm date set yet, CEO Miguel Hernandez said by phone Friday. The space is undergoing cosmetic renovations with the patio as the main focus.

“It’s a taqueria elevated,” Hernandez said.
The Tampa outpost will be the 13th location of Rreal Tacos to open since its founding in 2015. Hernandez and his team want to mimic what they have done in Georgia, with plans to expand further into Tampa Bay and other large markets in Florida, he said.
If you picture the vibes of Mexico City with a little bit of Florida’s palm trees, then throw that in a blender and drink it, that’s what you’re going to get in Tampa, Hernandez said.
