ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A St. Petersburg shooting on Friday that left one man dead another man injured was done in self-defense, police officials said.
The St. Petersburg Police Department (SPPD) identified the deceased man as 29-year-old Syltico Morand.
According to a SPPD report, Morand and another man were armed and attempted to rob two men who were parked in a vehicle on 22nd Lane South at about 6:30 p.m.
The men in the vehicle were also armed.
When a confrontation erupted, Morand, and the man with him, were shot.
Morand died at the scene.
The other man, age 30, was hospitalized with critical injuries.
Officers arrived quickly and detained two men. Officers also found multiple firearms at the scene.
Currently, evidence points to a self-defense shooting, however, the investigation is continuing.
The men who were detained and interviewed were not charged on Saturday.
