HOBE SOUND, Fla. (CBS12) — Deputies are seeking to identify a masked man who got physical with a Hobe Sound 7-Eleven clerk with a metal pole during a failed robbery attempt.

According to an announcement from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, at around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, deputies responded to 7-Eleven at 11835 SE Federal Highway in Hobe Sound after a suspect attempted to rob the store.

Deputies say the situation escalated when the clerk refused to open the cash register.

The masked suspect, clad in head-to-toe black, allegedly struck the clerk with a metal pole before fleeing the building and heading south through the parking lot.

MCSO reports that the clerk was startled but uninjured.

The suspect is described by deputies as being a 5’6″ black man, with a black mask, black jacket, black shorts, and black shoes.
