First proton center on Florida’s west coast opens in Estero
After years of planning and construction, Southwest Florida Proton has begun delivering life-saving proton therapy treatments to cancer patients. The Estero location is the first on Florida west coast to offer this highly advanced and precise form of radiation therapy, eliminating the need for local patients to travel two-plus hours each way for treatment. Priority Marketing distributed the news to media nationwide and coordinated a media tour that allowed local journalists to see inside the proton chamber and control room.

The 2026 Edison Awards, an international competition sponsored by The Horizon Foundation that culminates in April with a celebratory event in Fort Myers, will feature winners familiar to Southwest Floridians. Arthrex, Inc. (Naples), ADDMAN (Fort Myers), e2companies (Bonita Springs); EmCyte Corporation (Fort Myers) and Digital ShortCutz LLC (Naples) will be recognized for their innovation along with the likes of Waymo, DuPoint, Samsung and other international companies.

Health company expands presence on Florida’s Space Coast
Millennium Physician Group, a Mosaic Health Company and one of the largest physician-led health care groups in Florida, announced an expansion of its Florida footprint through a new physician partnership in Brevard and Indian River counties. Millennium added eight primary care locations and a team of physicians, advanced practice providers and clinical staff serving approximately 37,000 active patients across the Space Coast region.

Nonprofit lifts first walls of future distribution center
Construction crews lifted the first walls of Harry Chapin Food Bank’s future Hunger Action Center, a 110,175-square-foot distribution center and warehouse being built in Fort Myers. Once completed later this year, the Hunger Action Center will increase the Food Bank’s food distribution capabilities from 45 million to 80 million pounds annually of dry, refrigerated and frozen food.

Nova Classical STEM Academy is accepting applications for its inaugural 2026–27 school year, when it will make history as the first school in the world to fully integrate a Classical education framework with a STEM-enriched, project-based learning model within a tuition-free public charter school environment. It’s been a busy start to 2026 for Naples Art District. This month marked the start of the nonprofit’s 20th anniversary season, and they’ve already hosted one major event, with Artful Arrangements taking place earlier this month.
