Stuart, Fla. (CBS12 News) — The recent deaths of two protestors who were shot by ICE agents in Minneapolis have sparked a public outcry.

Those two incidents are having an impact here in South Florida.

Dozens of protestors gathered outside the office of Congressman Brian Mast in Stuart on Wednesday.

They cheered as drivers passing by honked their horns to show support.

Several protestors told us they denounce the aggressive tactics of ICE agents in Minneapolis which they say violate the law and have little regard for the safety or immigration status of people they encounter.

Some say Congressman Mast needs to oppose what ICE is doing.

“Mast is not standing up for what his constituents want,” said Don, a protestor from Palm City who would not give his last name.

“Due process is not happening. They’re just scooping people off the streets. No search warrants, no probable cause, based on the color of their skin,” said Tom Service, a protestor from Hobe Sound and a U.S. Navy veteran.

“I am not interested in seeing ICE be let loose in our area. I am not interested in seeing my law-abiding, legally-carrying citizens of my state be terrorized for exercising their right to peacefully protest,” said Alannah Ghazal, a protestor from Stuart.

We reached out to Congressman Brian Mast’s office, asking if he has a comment about the protestors’ concerns and we’re waiting for his response.
