It’s pirate time again. On Saturday, Jan. 31, the Gasparilla Invasion and Parade of Pirates will swashbuckle up Tampa’s waterfront. Whether you’re cosplaying in boots and an eye patch as a spectator, or not, food and drink will be in order before, during and after the festivities.
The parade will kick off at Bay to Bay and Bayshore boulevards after the invasion docks at the Tampa Convention Center, floating from Bayshore onto Brorein Street downtown and then turning onto Ashley Drive before ending at the intersection of Cass Street.
Here are 55 restaurants and bars along or near the parade route that are worth checking out.
Let us know where you’ll be grubbing in the comments.
Note: We’ve focused this list on South Tampa and downtown, and it’s by no means exhaustive. The convention center hosts a brunch party with a great view of the invasion, as the Jose Gasparilla pirate ship and a flotilla of hundreds of private boats sail across Hillsborough Bay into Seddon Channel. Davis Islands and Harbour Island are also popular places to catch the fun and have plenty of food and drink spots to hit up.

Start the swashbuckling shenanigans at this South Tampa restaurant, bar and game room’s Gasparilla celebration. Brunch begins at 10 a.m. Jan. 31, offering dishes such as Skirt Steak Hash (potato hash, fried eggs, toast, cheese sauce) and PB & Banana Crispy Waffles (maple peanut butter, honey butter, brulee banana, peanut butter whipped cream, salted caramel, crispy bacon). And it wouldn’t be a party without DJ tunes, drink specials or beads.

The city’s Water Street development is vast, and it has no shortage of options for eating and drinking. There’s elevated Mediterranean food and a large bar in the revamped Predalina, Italian-inspired dishes at Ash, fast-casual fare at Cava and Wagamama. We like The Pearl (a gastropub with great cocktails, snacks and oysters) and Small Giant (a neighborhood bar with comfort food and pizza) for the casual-but-elevated vibes. Capping off the festivities at Water Street seems fitting — revelry in chic digs Jose Gaspar might have plundered.
