Eight months after officially opening, Universal Epic Universe is still not operating at full capacity, Comcast executives confirmed with todays earnings report. Despite this, the park was still the driving force behind a 22% revenue increase for the company’s theme park division last quarter.
During Thursday’s earnings report call, Comcast CFO Jason S. Armstrong said while Epic Universe is “not yet operating at full run rate capacity, we’ve made meaningful progress expanding ride throughput and we remain focused on scaling further over the next several quarters with higher attendance, stronger per-caps, and additional operating leverage over time.”
Comcast co-CEO Mike Cavanagh previously stated in October that he expected Epic Universe to be at full capacity within a few months. During Thursday’s call, he said it would be by the end of this year.
Cavanagh also addressed possible Epic Universe expansions, stating that though they plan to invest in the park, they will focus on filling up hotels this year. Still, site preparation is underway for potential expansion work.
Cavanagh said, “We couldn’t be more pleased with Epic,” and that the success of the park “makes us all feel good about the future of the business ahead of us.”
