A 14-year-old boy in Port St. Lucie was arrested on Sunday after he posted a bomb threat toward his school on TikTok, police said.
The teen was charged with electronic threats to kill, do bodily injury or conduct an act of terrorism.
NBC6 is not identifying the teen because he is a minor.
According to Port St. Lucie Police, at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, they received calls from parents who were concerned about a video that was posted online threatening Southport Middle School.
A screenshot of the video was provided to officers, which had a caption that reads “On Monday The 20th Southport middle Is getting bombed by me. Stay home alright.”
As officers began to investigate the source of the video, they found the TikTok account belonged to a user called “Benjamin Franklyn.”
Utilizing IP address data, detectives were led to a home in Port St. Lucie, where they found the 14-year-old who created the TikTok account and went to the middle school.
It was determined that the threat was a prank, and the teen did not have the material needed to make a bomb.
The middle school’s security was told about the alleged threat, and the teen was taken into custody.
