A 19-year-old Tampa man is dead after officials said he crashed his car into a semi-truck tractor on the shoulder of I-75.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the 19-year-old was driving a Honda Accord after 5 a.m. Sunday going southbound on I-75 in Sumter County. Meanwhile a 35-year-old Rhode Island man driving the tractor pulled over on the emergency shoulder due to mechanical issues.

FHP says the Tampa man “for unknown reasons” entered the shoulder and collided into the tractor.

The 19-year-old died at the scene from his injuries, while the 35-year-old was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
