February 2, 2026 – St. Petersburg-based Duke Energy Florida asked customers statewide to reduce power consumption from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday morning, as freezing temperatures have caused a surge in demand. The publicly traded utility asked customers to lower thermostats, avoid using appliances, turn off unnecessary devices and charge electric vehicles around midday, when demand is lower.
