JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A mobile home fire on Collins Road Tuesday morning left a woman dead, marking the first fatal fire in Duval County in 2026, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
Chief Aaron Bebernitz said crews were dispatched to the home at 5:49 a.m. When they arrived, Bebernitz said they found “heavy fire” coming from the home.
Once firefighters entered the home, Bebernitz said they encountered “excessive volumes of debris and clutter inside.” The fire was brought under control at 6:23 a.m.
At 6:42 a.m., Bebernitz said crews found the woman, whose identity was not released, dead inside the home.
Although the Bureau of Fire, Arson & Explosives Investigations is investigating the cause of the fire, Bebernitz said early indications are that the fire wasn’t started intentionally.
