JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A motorcyclist died Tuesday morning after being involved in a crash with an SUV along Hodges Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The crash reportedly happened in the 2300 block at approximately 6:50 a.m., causing all lanes of Hodges Boulevard from Bentwater Drive to Arabella Drive to shut down temporarily.
JSO Sgt. Robert Hungerford said a man driving an SUV was turning southbound onto Hodges Boulevard from Tropic Egret Drive as the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Hodges Boulevard. The vehicles collided during the turn.
The motorcyclist was then taken to a local hospital, where he died shortly after arriving, Hungerford said.
Detectives are investigating if speed was a factor in the crash. When asked if the driver of SUV would face any charges, Hungerford told First Coast News, “Not yet.”
The identities of the drivers were not released. However, Hungerford said the motorcyclist was a man in his mid-20s, and the SUV driver was a man in his late-50s.
This crash marks as the 16th traffic fatality in Duval County in 2026, and the third involving a motorcycle, according to JSO.
