Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans suffered a concussion and broken collarbone in the team’s loss to the Lions in Week 7, according to head coach Todd Bowles. The Bucs coach made the announcement at the top of his media availability post-game on Monday Night.
Unfortunately, Evans will now be out for most of the season, with a return likely in December for the veteran wide receiver.
The injury occurred when Baker Mayfield targeted him deep downfield in the game against the Lions, and he landed hard on his shoulder while attempting the catch. It is the second injury he suffered this year, causing him to miss the bulk of the season after previously dealing with a hamstring issue that also plagued him in 2024.
That leads us to the difficult conversation of looking ahead to what is next for the former All-Pro receiver.
He is playing on the final year of his contract with the team, and will be 33 when next year’s regular season kicks off. It is hard to imagine him playing for anyone other than the Bucs in 2026, but it is a possibility. What could be a more realistic possibility is that he could walk away with the numbers there to support a Hall of Fame-worthy career.

Before all of that, the Bucs want to make the playoffs to leave a chance for Evans to come back and make more of an impact on the year.
